SPAOH: The Ngiling Tikai tradition as a symbol of the closing of the Gawai Dayak festival was celebrated in a harmonious atmosphere steeped in customs at the Mendit Unsu Longhouse, Penom, Ulu Paku, on Sunday.

The ceremony was officiated by Sarawak Deputy Premier and Bukit Saban Assemblyman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who was also accompanied by Member of Parliament for Betong, Dato Dr. Richard Rapu, as a sign of the government's strong support for the rural community.

Datuk Amar Douglas in his speech said that Ngiling Tikai is not only a traditional custom to close Gawai, but also a means to foster a sense of belonging, strengthen unity and unite communities of various races in an atmosphere full of goodwill.

"This colourful cultural event also showcases the unique heritage of the Dayak community, as well as being a symbol of close cooperation between the people and leaders – in line with the Sarawak Maju 2030 development aspirations.

"With the support of culture, community strength and continued government support, Spaoh and the surrounding areas continue to be on a solid path towards inclusive, sustainable and people-centred development, especially under the Bukit Saban constituency," he said. -UKASnews
