SELANGAU: The Sarawak Government remains steadfast in ensuring all Projek Rakyat are implemented smoothly and according to schedule, with no projects currently classified as sick projects.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said continuous monitoring by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) along with close cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak (MIPD) is crucial in keeping development projects on the right track.
“JKR consistently monitors Projek Rakyat announced by the Sarawak Premier to ensure they are completed as scheduled and that we maintain zero sick projects,” he said during a press conference after visiting two project sites, here on Tuesday.
Among the sites visited was the construction of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Selangau which is showing encouraging progress.
The project, which began in July 2024, has recorded a physical progress of 19.41 per cent, about 4.34 per cent ahead of schedule.
It is expected to be completed earlier than the original timeline of June 2027, with projections pointing to December 2026.
Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah added that the project has progressed well thanks to its favourable site conditions, which are neither on peat soil nor hilly terrain.
The SMK Selangau project involves the construction of 18 classrooms, a dormitory, teachers’ quarters, and various other facilities on a 22.2-acre site at Mile 51½ along Jalan Sibu-Selangau.
During the same visit, the MIPD Minister also inspected the site for the construction of a new RM3 million access road linking the Pan Borneo Highway to Selangau town, which is expected to boost connectivity and mobility for the locals.
Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah stressed that implementing agencies such as JKR Sarawak will ensure all development projects are carried out smoothly and completed on schedule for the well-being of the people.
The working visit was also joined by MIPD Permanent Secretary, Datu Chiew Chee Yau, Director of JKR Sarawak, Dr. Cassidy Morris, and Selangau District Officer, Yalin Asan. -UKASnews
