SARIKEI: As a proactive measure to address the long-standing water supply issues in Julau and surrounding areas, the Sarawak Government has launched the Julau Water Supply Project Package 1, valued at RM25.7 million.
Expected to be completed by the end of 2025, the project aims to improve the quality of water supply for over 3,000 local residents.

Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the project is a reflection of the government’s commitment in ensuring that rural communities, particularly in Julau, receive a consistent and quality supply of clean water.
The project involves the construction of a new water treatment plant with a capacity of 3.4 million litres per day, an intake point for raw water, a pump station, and the installation of 28 kilometres of piping.
It is intended to upgrade the current water supply system which is no longer able to meet growing demand.
“Access to clean water is a basic right for every citizen, and the Sarawak Government is determined to resolve this issue promptly.

“I urge the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) to remain attentive to public complaints and community needs to ensure improved water supply in this area,” he said during a working visit to the Julau Water Treatment Plant on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Meluan Assemblyman, Rolland Duat Jubin also voiced his concern over the prolonged water supply issues in Julau.
He called on JBALB to enhance efficiency in implementing the project.
“The water supply issue in Julau has dragged on for too long and has significantly affected residents.
“I hope this project will be a long-term solution and bring benefit to all parties involved,” he said.
The project is expected to increase the capacity and efficiency of Julau’s water supply system, ultimately improving the quality of life for residents who currently rely on unstable water supply. -UKASnews
