MUKAH: The Baton Relay of the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA XXI) and Para SUKMA Sarawak 2024 continued in the Mukah Division at the Dataran Pehin Setia Raja Mukah on Sunday.

An estimated 1,000 participants took part in the relay which was officiated by Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Operation) and Chief Executive Officer of SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 Secretariat, Datu Hii Chang Kee together with Balingian Assemblyman, Abdul Yakub Arbi and Mukah Division Resident, Kueh Lei Poh.

Among other activities that were held included aerobics where the local community started gathering at Dataran Pehin Setia Raja Mukah as early as 6 a.m. before starting the relay.

In addition, there was also the Bidar Lukut Competition which is a mini boat race, an iconic traditional sports of the Melanau community in Mukah, in addition to archery sports activities.

This baton relay is held in conjunction with SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 which will take place from August 17 to 24.

Later, the event will continue with Sarawak Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah officiating the baton handover ceremony which will be delivered by Head of the Sports Icon, Ashley Iranues Jack. -UKASnews
