Over 1,000 Throng Bintulu Civic Centre For SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 Baton Relay

BINTULU: Bintulu Division became the third destination for the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA XXI) Sarawak 2024 Baton Relay which aimed to promote the biennial sports event that will take place from August 17 to 24.

The rain did not prevent more than 1,000 residents of Bintulu from coming together to enliven the event which took place at the Bintulu Civic Centre on Saturday.

The people present also participated in various activities and competitions such as aerobics, archery, and Mobile Legends.

Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Operation) and Chief Executive Officer of SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 Secretariat, Datu Hii Chang Kee as well as Resident of Bintulu Division, Nyurak Keti officiated the flag-off of the baton relay involving 500 participants.

The relay was also participated by sports icons from Bintulu led by Marylyne Bungan Lian of the Taekwondo sports. 

The event was also attended by other athletes, students, and the public.

Meanwhile, the SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 Baton Relay will continue in Mukah, Sibu, Kapit, Sri Aman, Betong, Kota Samarahan, Serian and will end in Kuching on June 23.

Previously, Limbang was chosen as the first destination of the event followed by Miri.

SUKMA XXI will witness 488 events involving 37 types of sports divided into 236 men's events, 217 women's events, and 35 mixed events.

The biennial sports games will also bring together a total of 12,619 athletes and officials from all competing states. -UKASnews
