KUCHING: Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni welcomed the Sarawak Government's initiative to develop several mega projects in the Demak Laut Constituency.

He described this development as having a great impact, especially on the economic development of the local community and at the same time increasing the connectivity between the area and other districts.

"We have several mega projects including the deep sea port and airport in Tanjung Embang, the Sejingkat Bridge, a naval base and several housing projects that will and are being developed here.

"I expect the Sejingkat Bridge to have reached 60 to 70 per cent completion since it needs to be fully completed by the end of this year.

“For this project (the Sejinkat Bridge), it will shorten the travel distance to Kota Samarahan and at the same time improve the overall socio-economic situation in the Kota Samarahan and Petra Jaya areas,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House here on Saturday.

Regarding the event, the Demak Laut Assemblyman was satisfied with the encouraging response from the local residents who had the opportunity to attend his event.

Apart from the local community, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian was also present to enliven the lively event.

Datuk Dr Hazland meanwhile expected approximately 5,000 residents to attend the event which started from 10am to 2pm.

He made this clear following the number of visitors attending each year, where last year he revealed that more than 3,000 visitors attended to enliven the atmosphere of the open house. -UKASnews
