KUCHING: The Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) has successfully put Sarawak on the right track to become a major economic power in Malaysia and even in the ASEAN region.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said this success could be achieved through major investments in infrastructure, digital economy, technological innovation, green economy, talent development and education, acquisition of large assets and development of strategic assets.
“Sarawak has achieved a proud success last year where the state’s economic growth is expected to be at a rate of five to six percent which reflects encouraging growth.
“I am confident and believe that Sarawak is capable of showing good growth because the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Government has carefully planned the state’s economic journey through PCDS 2030 which is based on three pillars, namely economic prosperity, social inclusion and environmental sustainability,” he said in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025 Message.
In this regard, he said that all initiatives to strengthen the economy are being actively carried out including the construction of roads and bridges which are very important to drive economic growth.
“Of the 16 bridges currently being built, nine bridges are expected to be completed this year which will definitely improve the standard of connectivity in the state.
“These bridges were built simultaneously at a total cost of RM5.90 billion, funded by the Sarawak Government itself, proving the commitment of the GPS Government to upgrade the road transport system in Sarawak to drive economic growth and benefit the people,” he said.
Commenting further, he announced the success of the Sarawak Government in completing four major bridges so far, namely the Marudi Bridge which cost RM117 million, the Batang Lassa Bridge which connects Pulau Bruit with Daro with an allocation of RM600 million.
This success was followed by the opening of the Bintulu-Jepak Bridge and the Pasi Bridge in Sarikei to facilitate the journey of those returning to their villages in conjunction with Hari Raya.
With this success, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari is confident that the Sarawak Government under GPS is able to transform Sarawak into a stable and sustainable economy. -UKASnews
