KUCHING: The Sarawak Premier’s Office, informally referred to as the ‘White House’ Sarawak, has been constructed primarily to address security concerns, as the current administrative building, Wisma Bapa Malaysia, is easily accessible to the public.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, highlighted the security risks posed by this accessibility, noting that many government secrets are stored in Wisma Bapa Malaysia.
“The ‘White House’ Sarawak was built purely for security reasons. Wisma Bapa Malaysia is open to the public, which creates a significant security risk. Since government secrets are housed there, a safer and more secure location is necessary,” he explained.
The Sarawak Premier made these remarks during a press conference following the opening ceremony of the 16th General Assembly of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Saturday.
He further mentioned that the official name for the new office building has yet to be determined, as construction is still ongoing. Similarly, the full opening and operational date for the building will be announced upon its completion. -UKASnews
