KUCHING: The long-standing values of justice and harmony have made Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) a strong and stable party in this region.
PBB Deputy President, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said these values are evident in the appointment of the party's top leadership which included representatives from both its main wings, namely Pesaka and Bumiputera.
"We have a Youth Chief who is a representative from the Pesaka wing while the Women's Chief is appointed from the Bumiputera wing, and this can also be seen in the position of Deputy Presidents where I am from the Pesaka wing and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan is from the Bumiputera wing.
"This matter is practiced down to the lower levels, so no issues that touch on religion and race occur in PBB, therefore this party remains strong," he said.
He said this during his speech at the Opening Ceremony of the 16th General Assembly of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth Wing and Women's Wing at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Friday.
Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah who is also the Deputy Premier of Sarawak added that although the practice is not formally enshrined in the party’s constitution, it has been followed since its inception.
"Interestingly, this practice is not written in the party constitution at all, but because it is a good practice, all party members have recognised it and subsequently maintained the practice until now, further strengthening unity in the party," he said.
He also highlighted that the harmony among party members regardless of position and standing is evident when the change of party leadership, namely its President, went smoothly without any internal conflict or disputes.
In this regard, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah called on new members and leaders of PBB to continue practicing these values, maintaining the party as the pillar of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to drive progress and development in the region.
Also present at the opening ceremony were Deputy President of PBB and Deputy Chairman of the PBB 16th General Assembly Main Committee, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Senior Vice President of PBB, Dato Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom, Permanent Chairman of PBB, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Secretary-General of PBB and Secretary of the PBB 16th General Assembly Main Committee, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, PBB Women's Chief, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, PBB Youth Chief, Miro Simuh, as well as other delegates. -UKASnews
