KUCHING: The Tanjung Embang area is set to undergo a significant transformation with the proposed construction of a deep-sea port and a new international airport near Demak Laut.

According to Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty), Datuk Dr. Hazland Abang Hipni, these two projects could also help improve the standard of living for residents and provide more job opportunities for the youth.

“I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the Sarawak Government, particularly to Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg for selecting the Tanjung Embang area for these projects,” he said in a statement on Monday.

According to him, these projects have received widespread support from local leaders, community heads, and residents who believe the development will boost the region's economy and improve living standards.

The Demak Laut Assemblyman also advised residents in the Demak Laut area to prepare for the development by acquiring relevant knowledge and skills to meet future workforce demands.

Meanwhile, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari, speaking at the PBB Branch Representative Meeting for the Southern Zone in Kuching last Sunday, explained that the new international airport would enhance Malaysia's airspace infrastructure, enabling smoother aircraft departures and landings.

He added that the deep-sea port is designed to accommodate large vessels for efficient loading and unloading of goods, addressing the limitations of Sarawak’s existing ports.

Tanjung Embang, covering 15,000 hectares within the Demak Laut constituency and Santubong constituency comprises seven villages namely the Kampung Beradek, Kampung Semilang, Kampung Beradek Cina, Kampung Tiang Api, Kampung Sungai Pinang, Kampung Sungai Tanju, and Kampung Beliong.

Strategically located near the Demak Laut Commercial Center and Kuching city, the area is set to benefit further from improved connectivity with the ongoing construction of the Sejingkat Bridge to Tanjung Bako. -UKASnews
