KUCHING: The Sarawak Pengiran Heirs and Descendants Association (PKWPS) is continuing its efforts to collect as many genealogies as possible of the Pengiran, Wan, Awang, Dayang, and other lineages originating from Sarawak.
Its Chairman, Awang Magerib Awang Anie said this effort is aimed at ensuring that each individual in the lineage is given due recognition, and that their heritage is valued and continued to future generations.
"So far, the membership that has been accumulated has almost reached 400 people, and we are also actively expanding the membership by focusing on the participation of women and youth, in order to strengthen and develop this organisation," he said.
He said this to reporters after paying a courtesy call on Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi at the Astana Negeri Sarawak on Monday.
During the courtesy visit, Awang Magerib expressed his gratitude for the full support of Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi who had suggested that his side collaborate with experienced and knowledgeable experts in the field of history.
This collaboration, he said, aims to document the results of research and searches related to their lineage in a book, as a historical reference that will ensure that the heritage is not lost to time.
"We fully support Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi's aspiration to restore the nostalgia that exists in Sarawak. So, we are actively planning strategies in the aspects of administration, organisation, and governance to strengthen our position as an association that plays a role in preserving the heritage and history of the lineage.
"In addition, we are also waiting for official recognition from the National Registration Department (JPN) so that we can implement various programmes related to heritage or confirm the birth of new members in the lineage that may have previously received little attention,” he added.
Also present during the visit were PKWPS Advisors, Awang Indra Awang Mostapha and Dr. Awang Nip Zuhairi Awang Ahmad, PKWPS Deputy Chairman, Awang Khalik Awang Yusuf, as well as several PKWPS members. -UKASnews
