KUCHING: Sarawak is on track to achieve a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of RM282 billion by 2030.

According to Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, doubling Sarawak's income would achieve one of the key goals under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

"Sarawak is on track as the state's revenue has increased significantly from RM5.6 billion in 2017 to RM14.2 billion in 2024, and this figure is expected to continue to increase this year," he said.

He said this when speaking at the ‘Majlis Amanat Perdana Premier Sarawak 2025’ at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on Monday.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg officiated the programme which was also attended by his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma'ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah added that Sarawak has also been recognised by the World Bank as a high-income region, earlier than the 2030 target.

The Second Minister for Finance and New Economy said Sarawak has successfully attracted approved investments worth RM21.5 billion between 2021 and 2023 which is an important step in strengthening the economy and creating 11,000 new jobs.

In the tourism sector, he noted that Sarawak welcomed 3.9 million visitors in 2023, contributing RM9.99 billion in revenue.
"This achievement proves the effectiveness of PCDS 2030 in driving Sarawak's sustainable growth and putting the state on the path to an inclusive future," he explained.

Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Federal and Sarawak Ministers, Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Federal and Sarawak Deputy Ministers, Deputy Sarawak Secretaries, Heads of Departments, dignitaries and other guests of honour. -UKASnews
