SIBU: Three National Information Dissemination Centres (NADIs) located in Teku, Pelawan, and Salim in Sibu have been completed and officially launched today.
According to Minister for Utility and Telecommunication (MUT), Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Sarawak now has 156 operational NADIs statewide, with 23 new centres approved by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) last year.
“The establishment of these 23 new NADIs across Sarawak aims to strengthen Sarawak's information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure, particularly in rural areas,” he said during his offficial working visit to NADI in the Sibu Division.
Dato Sri Julaihi added that NADI not only provides high-speed internet access of up to 800Mbps but also offers ICT training to the local community, focusing on B40 students.
“At NADI Teku, 60 per cent of registered users are students, while the remaining 40 per cent are local residents.
“This reflects the positive reception from the community, particularly among school students,” he added.
Each NADI is equipped with 10 laptops, and users can also bring their own devices to utilise the facilities provided.
Dato Sri Julaihi expressed hope that such facilities would drive digital transformation in Sarawak, making the state more competitive nationally and internationally.
Also present were MUT Deputy Minister, Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, and Sibu Division Resident, Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman. -UKASnews
