KUCHING: The Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) is ensuring that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) remains at the forefront in driving Sarawak’s transformation.
Its Minister, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the rapidly changing world requires skilled workers in fields such as manufacturing, agriculture, technology, and construction which are becoming increasingly important.
According to him, TVET plays a vital role in addressing the skills gap and ensuring that the workforce is prepared for the future of employment.
"We are striving to equip the youth with the skills needed to succeed in the rapidly changing digital world,” he said.
He said this in a speech read by MEITD Deputy Minister, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis during the Opening Ceremony of the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) TVET Conference here on Wednesday.
The ceremony was officiated by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.
He added that MEITD continues to promote TVET as a preferred career pathway by expanding offerings in line with industry needs while ensuring that students acquire practical skills for sectors that are in high demand.
Meanwhile, Dato Sri Roland Sagah said that the conference, themed ‘Building a Sustainable Future Through TVET’ , is a platform to exchange ideas, share best practices, and explore opportunities for collaboration in TVET talent development.
He noted that this conference brought together leaders, experts, and key stakeholders from various sectors and countries to discuss the ongoing transformation in TVET with the participation of 32 prominent speakers and panellists from Malaysia and abroad.
Also present were MEITD Deputy Minister, Datuk Dr. Annuar Rapa’ee, Chairman of the Sarawak Development Institute, Datuk Amar Jaul Samion, MEITD Permanent Secretary, Adana Jed, and other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
