KUCHING: Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg has expressed full his support for the adoption of Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology in the construction sector.
According to him, BIM is a 3D-based technology that enables detailed simulations of building construction with highly precise data.
“It is very meticulous, covering measurements, types of building materials, load factors, and much more.
“All of this is stored on a single data platform, making buildings more sustainable with quality materials,” he said during his speech at the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak 2024 Dinner Ceremony held here on Monday.
Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari also suggested incorporating innovative materials in construction, including walls that function as solar panels.
“Last week, there was a proposal to construct a government building. I suggested simulating materials, including walls that use lightweight solar panels resembling ordinary walls.
“This can save energy and enable self-sufficient energy generation,” he added.
The Sarawak Premier further highlighted BIM’s advantages in designing energy-efficient homes through strategic material placement and meticulous designs.
At the same event, he also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between JKR Sarawak and the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) to strengthen collaboration in digital development in the region.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Sarawak Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD), Dato Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom, Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD), Datuk Ir. Aidel Lariwoo, MIPD Permanent Secretary, Datu Chiew Chee Yau, JKR Sarawak Director, Ir. Dr. Cassidy Morris, and other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
